I help Japanese games be themselves.

They already speak English. I just give them a little nudge.

JPEN is a Tokyo-based Japanese-to-English translation studio with one mission: to deliver the very best the Japanese game industry has to offer to a worldwide audience, and to do it at the highest possible level of craft.

I started JPEN in 2005 after exiting an in-house localization position at Square Enix, where I worked on the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series. My initial goal was to grow as much as possible by working with and learning from a wide range of Japanese developers. Since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to translate dozens of games into English and wear other hats as well: scriptwriter, lyricist.

It’s been over fifteen years since I started working on games and thirty since I started playing them, and Japan continues to surprise me with its creativity. As long as I’m able, I hope to draw on my deep experience and craft to bring players around the world the same feelings that Japanese games give to me.
